I will admit that, this time last year, I did not think that within the year I would be getting ready to move to Japan as a missionary.

I had had the hope of becoming a missionary tucked away in my heart since 2010, when I was at university and met a Chinese student who had never heard of Jesus. The hope had been long-held, and even felt like it was slipping away by 2023 after waiting over a decade. Yet God moved many mountains and financial hurdles, and now I am preparing to move to Japan in two weeks (at the time of writing!) What a faithful and kind God!

Heading to Japan was in some ways a surprise, as I had always had a keen interest in China. Throughout my life, however, God has been continually turning my gaze towards Japan. I felt a deep burden when seeing how prevalent hopelessness and loneliness is across Japan. Sadly, so few Japanese people know the everlasting joy and hope that is found in Jesus. Whilst I am flexible as to how the Lord would like to use me in Japan, I am keen to create spaces for people to feel safe, seen, and connected.

Verses that have spurred me on throughout the years are found in Psalm 96:

‘Sing to the Lord a new song;

sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name;

proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvellous deeds among all peoples.’

Our Lord is so worthy to be known, worshipped and adored! I am thrilled and delighted to be declaring his glory among the Japanese, and would love for you to join me in praying for his salvation to be known across that dear land.
