‘Be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people’, writes the Apostle Paul (Ephesians 6v18). What a wonder that we can all approach the throne of grace on behalf of our brothers and sisters amongst the peoples of Vietnam and on behalf of the millions who have not yet tasted his amazing grace. I invite you to join in this prayer for Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups and over 100 million people, based on the Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father in Heaven…
As your loved children, we dare to call out to you for the peoples of Vietnam. Our hope for the peoples of Vietnam on earth is that you are the Lord in Heaven- sovereign on your throne, free to act according to your will, perfect in love and power to bless.
Hallowed be your name…
May your beautiful name be revered and treasured above all the gods and the ancestors of Vietnamese beliefs, all the spirits that hold people captive which lay claim to people’s lives.
We bless you for the many in Vietnam who confess the name of Jesus as Lord. We seek you for the many more who haven’t yet received him.
Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven…
May the liberating power of your kingdom be unleashed in Vietnam.
Where there is injustice, corruption, and oppression, bring righteousness and new church communities where all are one in Christ.
Let your kingdom come as your church proclaims the gospel, makes disciples, and plants churches in places yet to experience the light of your love.
Give us today our daily bread…
Father of good gifts, give to your children all that they need. May your church’s generous heart grow. Let it be said of your church ‘that there were none among them who had any need.’ (Acts 4:34).
And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us…
Your people have tasted a gift too often unknown in families and communities across Vietnam: forgiveness. May it be the spiritual heartbeat of our brothers and sisters to receive your forgiveness afresh each day and to offer it to one another over bread and wine as a forgiven family.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…
Father who finishes all that you start, complete your work in the churches of Vietnam we ask. God of glory, protect them through the armour of faith from the schemes of the evil one. May we, your worldwide church, stand strong in you and your mighty power until our King returns.
