Working together to reach Sendai students

Our Sendai Student Focus (SSF) ministry team reaches out to university and college students and staff with the good news of Jesus. We desire to see discipled graduates and staff making an impact for God’s kingdom.

We cannot do this ourselves. God has given us relationships and partnerships with Christian staff at a few secular universities in Sendai. In addition, there are also some Christian universities in the city, which were founded by various missionaries and Japanese believers. The university staff and Christian schools’ chaplains open opportunities for SSF to connect with students.

However, it does not stop there. We invite those students to hear the good news in the context of community on campus, in a home, or at church. For this to happen, relationships and connections with various churches and partners must be nurtured. As these relationships are nurtured, we are able to grow and work together, to reach more students, and to connect them with the body of believers who can continue to disciple them.

To grow and strengthen these relationships and connections, we meet with our partners for prayer and fellowship. The first such meeting for this year was held last month. Pastors of our partnering churches, a chaplain of one of the mission schools, and the regional KGK (Fellowship of Christian Students) worker gathered together. We shared a meal, heard from each other about our outreach to and discipleship of students, and prayed for what was shared.

Would you pray with us that these gatherings 3-4 times a year will build momentum and serve to encourage and equip us all in this ministry God has given us together?
