When Amy enquired with OMF about missionary service in Asia, ‘Cambodia’ was a country name that struck a chord. But the Cambodia field weren’t taking new missionaries that year so she decided to check out other countries. On arrival in North Vietnam it felt to Amy like “this is home”. North Vietnam did become home for Amy for 3 years… until her visa was cancelled. God closed the doors to Vietnam and had a different plan for her. This was a John 15:2 experience, having fruitful branches pruned.
Returning home, Amy approached the Cambodia field again still with a heart for the Vietnamese. Not yet having a ministry with this minority group, OMF Cambodia formed a partnership with a different organisation through which Amy is now seconded. She recognises that “this was God’s plan for me all along. I needed to focus on the Vietnamese in this country. God’s ways are higher than our ways.”
