By strategically representing and advocating for OMF, the Advocacy/Representation Department encourages and empowers others to discover their role in advancing the gospel within East Asia. The representatives within this team communicate God’s heart for the nations and represent OMF at strategic venues and events.

Major Responsibilities
Communicate God’s heart for the nations and represent OMF:
• Model a consistent witness for Christ.
• Truthfully and compellingly represent the ministry and vision of OMF at conferences, on campuses and to area churches.
• Set up event displays, in consultation with the Advocacy Event Coordinator.
• Enter contact information of inquirers into database system with relational professionalism, as well as connect inquirer with the appropriate department.
• Educate on the urgent needs of East Asia’s peoples and the state of the church in East Asia, according to the mission, vision and values of OMF (U.S.).
• Encourage and challenge students to take next steps toward missions involvement, according to the milestones developed by the Equipping Department.
• Inform and passionately challenge God’s people with practical ways to get involved in the global church.
• Encourage and challenge students to register for Perspectives on the World Christian Movement and to OMF-hosted events.
• Strengthen local church partnerships through meetings, trainings and networking with the Head of Priority Partnerships.

Pray for new workers:
• Set aside specific time to pray for new workers.

Character qualifications:
• Love for Jesus Christ and growing relationship with him.
• Passion for East Asia and reaching its peoples for God’s glory.
• Sense of calling to mobilize and invest in others for God’s glory among the nations.

Professional qualifications:
• Experience mentoring others and able to work well on a team.
• Proficient computer skills, including general Microsoft Office applications and personnel databases.
• Precise and professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to relate to staff at all organizational levels.
• Good judgment and ability to confidentially handle personal information.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working and interpersonal relationships.

If not serving as a volunteer, the salary for this position is “support-based.” This means that similar to most OMF (U.S.) Mobilization personnel, the Ministry Advocate is asked to raise the budget for the position’s salary. This is done by forming a Partnership Team that provides the financial resources and prayers necessary to serve as the Ministry Advocate. Going through Partnership Development as a homeside staff member decreases the amount of finances that cross-cultural missionaries need to contribute to the U.S. ministry. OMF will provide training and mentorship to facilitate the Partnership Development process.
