OMF has developed a Medical Advisory (MA) service for OMF missionaries. This service seeks to mitigate medical factors that could lead to decreased effectiveness and/or premature attrition. It also seeks to facilitate clear, confidential medical communication between doctors, missionaries, and OMF leadership. The MA team comprises an International Medical Advisor (IMA), Field Medical Advisors (FMA), Home Medical Advisors (HMA), Field Nurses on some fields and administrative support personnel.

As part of this team, the HMA—a licensed medical physician—provides assessment of and advice to OMF missionaries who have been serving overseas and are on temporary Home Assignment in the U.S. In addition, the HMA consults with overseas medical colleagues on the MA team.
