Position Description

God has given OMF a heart for Asia and the desire to bring his hope to billions.  To do this, OMF seeks to “mobilize” (train, equip and encourage) individuals to become more involved with long-term ministry in East Asia.

The Equipping Team receives and follows up initial communication from inquirers, recommends appropriate organizational next steps, coaches’ potential new workers, assesses intended OMF applicants and seeks to help prepare individuals for effective cross-cultural living and ministry.

The Equipping Director supervises and develops members of the Equipping Team so they can better prepare potential workers for long-term ministry involvement in East Asia.

Major Responsibilities

Recruit, train, and lead the Equipping staff:

  • Recruit staff replacements as needed, screen inquirers and conduct hiring and exit interviews.
  • Lead weekly staff meetings within the Equipping Team.
  • Meet regularly with and invest spiritually and personally in staff members.
  • Lead team in determining key result areas, goals, and performance indicators for equipping.
  • Ensure clear understanding of and maintains focus on equipping goals, key result areas, and performance indicators.
  • Lead team in developing strategies and determining procedures for efficient Follow-Up, tracking, and effective Ministry Coaching.
  • Ensure that Equipping Team members receive adequate training for all required tasks.
  • Help manage and facilitate group tasks.
  • Serve in coordinator and coaching tasks as necessary.

 Develop the Equipping Team:

  • Research U.S. trends in missions and mentoring.
  • Research other organizations and opportunities for comparison.
  • Review and update resources for greater effectiveness.
  • Review all areas of program effectiveness and lead projects for ongoing improvement.
  • Continually review OMF International for up-to-date information on the global fellowship to better support team members as they interact with potential new workers.
  • Work with Ministry Coordinators to ensure that all inquirers receive appropriate follow-up.
  • Develop, maintain and administer follow-up system(s) to ensure proper communication with individuals interested in OMF.
  • Help facilitate training of and support for other OMF (U.S) mobilizers toward effective personal follow-up of contacts.

Oversee Equipping Team operations:

  • Establish and maintain effective procedures for all Equipping operations.
  • Oversee and review progress of all Equipping-related projects.
  • Oversee tracking of inquirers and coachees and ensure accurate record-keeping
  • Communicate regularly with other Mobilization teams by monthly Director meetings and preparing and submitting weekly updates.
  • Communicate with the Finance Department about budget, projects and Equipping expenses.
  • Approve timesheets, expense reports etc. for Equipping staff.
  • Conduct annual conversations.
  • Communicate with the Candidate Department on strategies to facilitate ongoing equipping of candidates and appointees.

Learn about ministry needs of East Asia:

  • Spend time learning about East Asian ministries to better cast vision and mentor others.
  • Visit different countries in East Asia in order to better understand the overall ministry and communicate the urgent and strategic need to bring the gospel to East Asia.


Pray for new workers for East Asia:

  • Pray regularly for the needs of East Asia.
  • Participate in weekly OMF Mobilization and interdepartmental prayer meetings.
  • Pray consistently for Equipping Team members.

  • Passion for East Asia and reaching its peoples for God’s glory.


Professional qualifications:

  • A self-starter and motivator.
  • Able to proactively plan and work with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple logistics at a given time.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and personnel databases.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to staff at all organizational levels; ability to work on a team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working and interpersonal relationships.
  • Able to work remotely on a virtual team.
  • Experience working with personnel of all ages, denominations and ethnicities.
  • Experience in short-term or long-term cross-cultural ministry preferred.


The salary for this position is “support-based.” This means that similar to most OMF (U.S.)-based Mobilization personnel; the Director of Equipping is asked to raise the budget for the position’s salary.  This is done by forming a Partnership Team that provides the financial resources and prayers necessary to serve as the Director of Equipping. Going through Partnership Development as a homeside staff member decreases the amount of finances that cross-cultural missionaries need to contribute to the U.S. ministry. OMF will provide training and mentorship to facilitate the Partnership Development process.
