My 10 weeks in Hirosaki, Japan not only grew my ministry abilities but more importantly, allowed God to work in my heart a love and an ache for the people of Japan to know Jesus.
“What should I do to prepare for long-term missions?”
We’re Eric and Kelly Farrow from Los Angeles, CA. Right around Christmas of 2019, we heard of an unexpected opportunity to serve for six months at OMF’s International Center (IC) in Singapore. With little time to prepare, we decided to go, making some difficult decisions (such as to leave Kelly’s job) and with mixed feelings.
No money. No visa. No passport. I seized Greg’s arm and told him we had to find my wallet. He smiled and said that God would help me find what was lost.
Defining my Asian-American experience hasn’t been easy. I’m still struggling to find others to engage in those conversations with and so I’m still learning and stumbling through it.
I was overwhelmed by the feeling of urgency, love, and longing for this region, which made me think: if I feel this way, how much more does God love and long for these people to know and worship Him?
In fact, the weaker I felt in my strength, the more persistent I became in leaning unto God. Being the faithful God He is, the Holy Spirit then comforted and empowered me in my prayer.
