About the event

After many months of doing things virtually and at a distance, we are eagerly looking forward to gathering together for the OMF national conference at the Hayes Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire in March 2022.

Look, listen, learn will be all about stepping back, lifting our eyes to wider world and listening to richness of voices the Lord has given his Church around the world. With this theme in view we are delighted with the breadth and depth of experience of those who have agreed to share with us over the weekend.

We are aware there are still many uncertainties regarding responses to COVID-19. We will be working with the Hayes Conference Centre to ensure guidelines are followed during the weekend. Remember, bookings for the conference can be cancelled free of charge until 13 February.

Cancellations must be made in writing to uk.commsadmin@omfmail.com or by post (OMF International UK, Station Approach, Borough Green, Sevenoaks, TN15 8BG).

Speakers

Rico Villanueva
We’re very excited that Frederico (Rico) G. Villanueva will be leading our Bible teaching for the weekend. He will be guiding us through ideas from the imprecatory prayers and laments in the Bible.

Based in the Philippines, Rico works for Langham, an organisation founded by the late John Stott, which supports church leaders in more than 90 nations. Rico is currently the Asia Regional Commissioning Editor for Langham Publishing and Scholar Care Coordinator of current Asian Langham scholars as they pursue theological studies enabling them to better serve their home churches.

Rico holds a PhD from the University of Bristol. He is the author of several books, including It’s OK to be NOT OK, exploring the psalms of lament, as well as commentaries on the books of Psalms and Lamentations. Dr Villanueva also currently teaches Hebrew and the Book of Psalms at the Loyola School of Theology and Asia Graduate School of Theology.

Rico’s favourite dish is Adobo (chicken) and Mongo (with malungay leaves and ampalaya – very healthy vegetables). He enjoys walks or jogs in the afternoon, usually with his three dogs.

Steve & Anna Griffiths
It is a joy to have the Griffiths joining us for the weekend sharing perspectives on mission from Latin America and what we can learn from the Brazilian Church. In 2017, Steve and Anna moved to Brazil with OMF to promote partnerships with mission agencies and churches, hoping to see more Latin Americans engaged in sharing the good news of Jesus with East Asia’s peoples.  Before that, they worked with OMF in Singapore and Cambodia. From 1991 to 1999, the Griffiths served with the Leprosy Mission in Africa in medical work and church planting. Rugby fan Steve hails from Zimbabwe and zoologist Anna from the West Country. Steve and Anna have two children: Joshua, a doctor, married to Rachel who is a social worker. Aimée is a newly-qualified doctor, working in London.

Peter Rowan
Peter & Christine Rowan share the role of UK National Director. Before serving in the UK, Peter & Christine worked with OMF in Thailand and Malaysia. Peter will be leading a session on the great benefits of listening to and learning from Christian voices from around the world.

Seminars
We have a truly diverse group of speakers sharing in our seminars. This includes both voices from inside OMF and beyond. Across the weekend, you can hear from leaders in the UK Chinese Church, a creation care specialist, those working in cities of China and East Asians involved in cross-cultural outreach here in the UK.

Home Assignees
We have also invited a number of OMF workers who are currently back in the UK on home assignment to share updates on their context and lead times of prayer for them, their colleagues and the national Church where they work.

Children and Youth Programme
There will be creche (6 months+), primary and secondary groups. The programme will include games, mission bible teaching, active sports, fun crafts, creative prayers and worship. This is a great chance to meet new friends, listen to inspiring stories from East Asia and learn about God’s heart for the world.
