The Certain hope of Christian believers

Last month I had the privilege of attending the funeral of a Thai lady who had invited Jesus to be her Saviour and Lord not long before she passed away. As often is the case, Christians will allow their Buddhist relatives to grieve in the way that is familiar to them and so the funeral was arranged at the local temple. A Thai Christian friend and I attended the Buddhist ceremony on one of the five evenings. This particular temple had beautiful paintings on the walls, there were exquisite flower arrangements around the coffin and many elegant floral wreaths sent in by friends and family.
By stark contrast I was struck by the reality of the signs that the monks were holding which declare ‘born’, ‘grow old’, ‘suffer’, ‘die’. It reminded me of the sadness and hopelessness of a life without the assurance of a Spiritual new birth to a glorious future with our Heavenly Father through the Lord Jesus.
This lady had also requested a short Christian service at the temple on one of the five days. How uplifting it was to sing of God’s love and mercy in sending His son, the Lord Jesus to be our saviour and preparing a place for us to live with Him forever. Oh that every Thai adult and child could have the opportunity to hear this message!
