Fuming, I knew that later I would (or should) be laughing, but I wasn’t laughing yet. Earlier that morning, I had stood waiting for public transport to Bangkok. Van after van blasted past me. Apparently not too many empty seats were available at 8 a.m. Finally, a van pulled over. “Victory Monument,” called out the...
Sattha Ministry seeks to provide the local church with a tool to reach families and their communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by creating an environment for relationship through the common ground of sports. While currently we use soccer (football) as the primary tool, we hope in the future to develop more ministry opportunities using various kinds of sports. Through God’s grace we desire to see the body of Christ unified and energized towards movements of vibrant, reproducing communities of faith seeking transformation by God’s power in the families of Thailand and beyond. So Sattha, a Thai word for faith, is more than a name, but denotes our need to trust our Great God and His faithfulness towards us in accomplishing the task He has set before us.
For the last 17 years, God has faithfully provided men and women to join Sattha International for a three week tour each July. Sattha International is primarily used by the church as a tool to reach communities and areas where the Gospel has not been heard. This traveling squad tours the Central region of Thailand playing and teaching soccer (football) in schools, communities and facilities like youth detention centers. While we play a lot of soccer, we have opportunity to share the good news of Christ through spoken witness, literature, shared lives and more. Sports Ministry Training
Sattha Ministry at its core, is meant to be a ministry of training for multiplication. We are working to train up sports ministers in the churches that can then go on to raise up other trainers while participating in disciple making ministry. We partner with a training ministry called Sports Fiends (SIM) to train up members of the local church to be coaches in their community or in new communities the church desires to reach.
Workers: Will and Meng En Brooks; Chris and Sarah Keiller; Noah and Maria Ward
Please pray for:
1) The Sattha initiative in Phachi that is a part of church planting efforts in the district. Pray that the good news of Jesus will reach the kids, their families and the local community leaders helping to organise the football coaching.
2) The Sattha ministry to expand as we seek to aid local churches interested in launching sports ministry and sending representatives for training. We hope to see churches in 2-3 cluster groups by next year’s Sattha International tour.
3) More workers from Thai and worldwide churches, willing to give time and be coaches who witness for Jesus in their communities in Thailand. Pray for the Sattha ministry team to prayerfully involve more people and actively mentor them to move forward together as one.
