Some things have funny beginnings! After living in West Paakphanang for almost a year, we have finally started an English club. In the past, we had regularly offered English lessons to the neighbouring children and students in our community, but nobody seemed to take us up on our offer. Recently, we had an associate missionary...
Long Term (4 years +)
Why long term?
Long-term or ‘career’ missions is a frightening thought. It involves a commitment that is hard to fully contemplate. So why is career missions at the heart of OMF Thailand’s strategy?
To deeply impact people, you need to get to know them. Although we promote short-term missions, we believe that, by far, the greatest impact comes when we are willing to stick around for the long haul. It comes from those people who learn the language and culture; build deep relationships and demonstrate by their love that Thai people matter – not only to them, but above all to God.
This is why long-term mission is at the heart of our ministry strategy. Long-term can be anything from 4 to 40 years. And the reality is clear: If we want to reach Thai people with the gospel, we need more missionaries who will stay here for the long term.
Browse through the rest of this website to learn about some of the ministries that our long-term missionaries are involved in, including: work with children and families, personal evangelism, church planting, discipleship, work with the urban poor, and much more.
How has God gifted you? What talents and interests do you have? You may be exactly the instrument God will use to reach out to those who need to know Him. We are looking for people who resonate with the five F’s:
Faith: our work is tough going so we need a deep trust in God to keep going.
Fun loving: our target people, the Thai, love to have fun, so we need to be people who enjoy life and laughter. In Thai the word for work and party is the same because all work needs a party..!
Flexibility: our work is all about change. We bring the Gospel that transforms people. We have to be ready to be changed ourselves, to adjust, to shift our expectations and ways of doing things, and our roles as the needs and situation changes.
Fellowship: we have to be able to work and live with others. We need people who will work together in the way a football team does. The players have to play as a team, but they have to have individual initiative too.
Foundational Five: we need people with one of the five gifts that the Lord gives for the equipping of his people for ministry as mentioned in Ephesians 4: apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. We also seek people with skills and gifts for our support roles (finance, administration and hospitality).
