Working Together for Christ

Dr Julian Thumboo has been part of the Singapore Home Council (SHC) since 2006 and has served as Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Home Council member. He is currently the Home Council Chairman, having taken over from Dr Luke Tan. He works closely with the National Director on the M & A Compliance with the Code of Governance for Charities and is very involved in strategic planning for SHC and Singapore National Office (SNO). Aside from his appointment with OMF Singapore, Dr Julian is currently the Research Director at Singapore General Hospital, and was a former Elder at Woodlands Evangelical Free Church.

My call to missions is intertwined with OMF. As a student, I used to attend OMF prayer meetings at Cluny Road, and was challenged by the stories of missionaries attending the Orientation Course. I read and re-read Hudson Taylor’s biography, learning principles of faith and dependence on God and seeing how God used him. After a month serving in a mission hospital in Taiwan, I heard God’s call for me to be a mobiliser for missions rather than a missionary.

The SHC provides oversight and strategic leadership for the work of OMF Singapore, supporting the National Director (ND) and the SNO team who execute the work God has called OMF Singapore to do. The ND is part of the SHC and provides links with the SNO team. SHC is privileged to have godly men and women who have served faithfully for many years. Dr Jennie Fung and Mrs Daphne Teo have recently stepped down from the SHC after serving for many years. We are in the process of inviting suitable leaders from various backgrounds to serve on the SHC.

OMF Singapore’s vision is to see vibrant partnerships for effective mobilisation of believers leading to transformed communities of East Asian peoples. To this end, we strive to support and enable churches to send their church members to the missions fields that God had called them to in East Asia. Antioch 21 has a vision to send 1000 missionaries from Singapore in the coming years, and we would like to play our part by supporting churches in fulfilling this call. I encourage Christians in Singapore to consider God’s heartbeat for His Glory among the nations. This call to collaborative missions takes various forms, be it mobilising for missions, partnerships with other mission agencies and churches, through live events and the digital space.

We are very grateful to our partner churches and supporters for joining with us in the work that God has called all of us to do. Please do join us in heartfelt, prevailing prayer as we continue to be effective in our ministries, and if you feel led to help in any way, please do reach out to us!
