Ichikawa and Sapporo Guest Homes
Pray that government paperwork for the new Sapporo Guest Home manager would be received quickly, and that he would be able to come to Japan this month. October is busy for the Ichikawa Guest Home manager, because it includes training the new Sapporo Guest Home manager, before he goes to Sapporo! Pray for good communication and relationship building, and for the team in Sapporo who are ‘holding the fort’ in the meantime.
Sapporo International Church (SIC)
Give thanks for people from diverse communities and different languages coming together to worship and have fellowship on Sundays. Pray for growth and unity for the entire congregation. Pray also for weekly events like the English Café, with opportunities to share with non-Christians, university student outreach events and Bible studies. Finally, please pray for tangible progress in the church’s building program, and for the committee.
Jōsui Megumi Church, Tachikawa, Tokyo
Pray for: 1) the missionary preaching on 19th October; 2) Opportunities to connect through guitar outreach and English initiatives; 3) Growth and safety during the Christian Academy in Japan’s “School Without Walls” week (6th-10th October). The missionaries’ kids will be taking part in on campus leadership and teamwork initiatives, and the Wilderness Camp; 4) Good rest and family connections during the autumn break (13th-17th October).
Returnee Ministries
Pray for two team members who’ve returned from home assignment and are now deputising as Kanto Sector Leaders. Pray for the whole team to work really well together. Pray for a returnee who’s getting baptised on 5th October. Pray for the Returnee Afternoon Tea (11th October) and the Returnee Café (25th October). Pray also for ongoing Bible studies and English discussion groups. Pray for good connections with recent returnees, and that they might get involved with the ministry or a local church, and continue to learn about Jesus and trust in him.
Kasukabe Evangelical Free Church, Saitama
Pray for ongoing English and Bible classes. Some classes have been asking if it’s possible to integrate the Bible more into the English learning part of the class. Please pray for wisdom to do this well and for people’s interest to grow!
Urayasu Church Plant (Gyotoku Christ Church)
The missionaries here are handing over the German Bible study group to another German missionary this month. They have been really encouraged by the interest shown by two non-believers, so please pray this will continue. At the end of October, these missionaries will take vacation with family from home. Please pray for a good, refreshing time together. Please also continue praying for a place for the church to meet.
Member Care Advisor
Please pray for the Member Care Advisor as she facilitates training in member care for the Sector Leader for Personnel and the Deputy Member Care Advisor on 15th & 22nd October. Pray for the final preparations to publish Take Care of Yourself in Japanese. Pray for completion of various projects before going on home assignment in January 2026..
Social Media Team
Each team member is part-time and juggles various responsibilities. Please pray as they work together and share the workload, and for wisdom for the team leader. Pray for good team building, encouragement, and planning for the future at the team’s retreat this month. Pray for the social media audience in October, with the theme of “myth-busting about missionaries”. Pray people will be drawn to be more involved in missions.
Japan Harvest (Magazine): Please continue in praying for another editor to join the team. Pray also for one team member who’s had surgery for mouth cancer.
Sakata Lutheran Brethren Church, Yamagata
Pray for the Lord’s help as this missionary begins teaching Sunday School, and for the kids’ English outreach event on the 28th October. Pray for our colleague’s attendance at the OMF Global Vision Council meetings from 12th-15th October in Singapore. Pray for wisdom.
Yamagata Nanbu Church
Give thanks that a missionary family have settled in Yamagata. Please pray for their preparations for Sunday evening sermons, and to teach Sunday school picture storytelling. Pray that they would be able to form and deepen relationships with the people whom God has brought to them.
Japan Homeside Center (JHC)
Holiness churches in Aichi are holding a joint meeting on 13th October, and one team member will be preaching and serving at the Neighbour Challenge seminar. Please pray that those gathered will receive encouragement from the Lord. Pray for God’s guidance to the right person to serve as the next International Director for East Asia North.
