Japan Prayer Fuel October 2021

The Government has announced that the State of Emergency covid measures will be removed from this month, though some interim restrictions remain. Please pray for the government, that they would continue to manage infection cases, support vulnerable populations whose mental health and finances have been heavily impacted by COVID, and discern how to open the Japanese border to foreign nationals. Please pray for the upcoming general election where a new Prime Minister will be decided – pray that the new Prime Minister and the new government will make and enforce policies in light of its people’s welfare and interest.

Finance & Administration Sector Leader

The budget upload deadline is 8 October. Pray for the finance team to get everything done by then. Pray also that the Lord will provide all the field needs in 2022. The Finance Committee meets on 14 October to review the draft budget and discuss stewardship of our finances and assets – pray for wisdom and insight. Please pray for protection, strength, and good relationships for the finance team during this busy time. Pray the Lord will reveal to us ways to use finances to advance the His kingdom in Japan.

Third-Culture Kid (TCK) Advisor

Please pray for handing over different aspects of the TCK Advisor role in coming weeks as the advisor ends her time on the field. Pray that the advisor can schedule time to visit some of the families outside Hokkaido.

Candidate Coordinator

Praise God for his leading in the September Field Welcome Group meeting. Praise too for opportunities to connect with the various homesides. Pray for good relationships with the homeside Candidate Coordinators.

Japanese Language and Culture Center (JLCC)

Half of the new JLCC students are located outside of Japan – please continue praying for their perseverance and weekly online language sessions. We are also thankful for ways to engage these remote Daniel Learners in culture learning. Continue to pray for part-time teachers who are affected by the delayed entry of new JLCC students – for patience and for the Lord’s financial provision. Pray that all our new colleagues would make progress in language learning.

fmZERO & KGK (student ministry)

A new semester has begun with likelihood of more in-person meetings.  Pray for new students to join us.  We also hope to start English & Bible classes in some campuses. Pray for opportunities and for students, especially non-believers, to sign up.  There are several meetings where we can share about the ministry with Hokkaido JECA (church association), KGK (IFES in Japan) & Hi-ba (high schoolers ministry).  Pray for more avenues of cooperation and extension of the Lord’s Kingdom.

Please pray for (1) the Lord’s work of healing, growth, and breakthrough upon each counsellee; (2) His help and guidance on our colleague’s study in psychiatric social work; (3) the salvation of a single mom, Ms. J, and her two children who recently began to attend church more regularly.

Nakayoshi Church

Since the homeless do not have devices the church continues to meet in person. Pray for protection from COVID and for the lay leadership team who runs the church.

Tokyo International Church

The church will have a new senior pastor from Taiwan.  Please pray that his entry to Japan may be smooth.  Please pray for the member’s language study.

Returnee Ministries

Pray for our Story Time event on 9 October to establish contact with people beyond our regular contacts. Pray for a greater grasp of the cultural barriers to the Gospel and how to deal with them. Pray for Ms M, Ms K. Pray for those whose progress continues slowly (Ms A, Mr M) and those who seem to make leaps and bounds (Ms M). The team is also looking at leading a bilingual parenting course at the Christian Academy in Japan to appeal to the Japanese non-Christian mothers. Pray for new contacts and for wisdom in the COVID context.
