Japan Prayer Fuel August 2021

Amidst uncertainty and objections due to rising COVID cases, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is well underway and will continue until 8 August, with the Paralympics scheduled to start on the 24th. Please continue to pray for those involved in the Olympics and for different opportunities to love and serve in spite of divided opinions. Some parts of Japan are also experiencing record-breaking summer heat. Managing the heat on top of COVID precautions is a challenge for many, including the elderly, children, and working men and women. Please continue to remember them. Lastly, many of our members take summer holidays in August. Please pray for a time of refreshment and rest.

Training Sector Leader

Please pray all our members in the training sector. Five members have finished their center visits and are considering their vision statements. Another five have graduated and moved to their new ministry locations. Please remember the others still in their training phase: either in JLCC or in their training designations.

Japanese Language & Culture Center

Pray for a refreshing time for those teachers and students who are taking holiday this month. Continue to pray for “not-yet-able to-enter-Japan” JLCC members – for perseverance and for their weekly online language sessions. Pray for part-time teachers who are affected by the delayed entry of new JLCC students, for patience and for the Lord’s financial provision. Finally, pray that every one of our new colleagues would make (and feel like they are making) progress in language learning.

Candidate Coordinator

Give thanks for two new members (US & Germany) who completed the online Orientation Course in July. Pray for them and the other new workers who are waiting for the borders in Japan to open – for patience as they wait, and for meaningful ways for them to use their time.

Serve Japan (short-term program)

Praise God for the six short-term workers (SAW) who are currently in Japan, and for how God is using them. Pray for good times of rest during their summer breaks, and renewed energy for the fall. Praise God for continued interest after the Journey through Japan Vision Zoom call, as we continue to see applicants for various opportunities. Praise God for a church in Hokkaido willing to host a SAW for English and outreach, and even willing to provide a car and help find housing. Pray for wisdom in navigating increasing numbers of applications. Pray for patience in the waiting, but good preparation so that when SAWs are allowed to enter again we will be ready for them.

Tohoku Sector Leader

Pray for each of the ministries over the summer with many opportunities to do things informally with people. Pray also for refreshment for each of the members and children. Pray for the sector leaders as they take 3 months ministry leave and for the deputy sector leaders as they deputise and juggle their various current responsibilities with the newly assumed ones. Pray for the Fukushima Prayer trip planned for the end of August with Asian Access and SEND as the 3 agencies take steps toward cooperating for a new work there.

Hokkaido Sector Leader

Please pray for the pastor of Takigawa Christ church who needs to receive a heart surgery on the 19th of August. Pray for churches in Hokkaido – may the Lord bless all the churches to be light and salt ing their areas. Please pray for ongoing conversation about partnerships with churches and organizations. Pray too for the discussion about regrouping the fellowship groups in Hokkaido at the leadership team meeting on 30th August.

Kanto Sector Leader

Praise God for sustaining the missionaries in Kanto during this hot summer and continued covid restrictions.  We praise God for another pastor with a common vision to train and mobilize his church members in evangelism.  Pray for the sector leader as he seeks to network to find more suitable churches we may designate missionaries to.

Japan Field Director

Pray for 1) Church planting strategy review and preparation for the next stage – consulting our partners in Japan. 2) Our fieldwide online gathering speaker as he prepares messages for our online gathering ‘Walking Together’ in September. Pray for the organising committee.
