This month sees the start of Ramadan on the 18th February. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar; it is also the month when Muslims fast from eating or drinking during daylight hours. The month is considered special by Muslims because, according to Islamic tradition, it is the month when the Qur’an was first revealed to Muhammad, the founder of Islam. You can learn more about why Ramadan is a significant time for Muslims here.
“The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.” – Psalm 145:9
- Ask God to help us think of all people as he does. ‘Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.’ (Gen 1:26a) Pray today for Christians around the world to be burdened to connect with Muslim people, praying regularly for them and their needs.
- Pray for opportunities for Christians to have respectful conversations with their Muslim neighbors so that they can be sensitive to their needs and beliefs.
- Many Muslims from East and Southeast Asia take time to read the whole Qur’an during Ramadan; their children also learn to recite parts of the Qur’an in Arabic by rote. Pray these dear people will learn more about Jesus, who is mentioned in the Qur’an.
