Prayer partners: key team members

You may know that most of us in OMF go on Home Assignment (HA) after four years of serving abroad. In recent years, before each HA my wife and I have had the chance to go to a Pre-Home-Assignment Workshop. This two-week workshop covers a lot of ground regarding our home assignment. But one thing strikes us every time: the course makes us look at our list of prayer partners and think about how we are communicating with each one. When we do that we are amazed at the people who have come alongside us and kept us going all these years!

There are friends who have prayed for my wife since the first time she served overseas in 1979. Others are long-standing supporters from each of our home churches, and some are from churches and prayer groups we have visited over the years. We even have prayer partners who were OMF short-term workers when we first met them, and others who began supporting us after a seemingly random connection within the Lord’s great providence.

Wonderful people! They’ve stuck with us through thick and thin. We love spending time with each one while on HA—they have their own stories to tell, it’s not just us talking. And a few have come to see us here in Japan—always a great adventure!

Quite a few of our prayer partners are people who don’t travel much themselves, yet by standing with us in prayer they’ve become key members of a team, affecting how things work out in a provincial Japanese town.

Do you feel you couldn’t live abroad for long? Well that doesn’t mean you can’t be part of the team. Without our support team we can’t be here, that’s a fact we never forget. Talk to OMF—even if you can’t come to Asia, Asia can definitely become part of you!

Will you pray for Japan?

  • Pray for those who are prayer supporters of our missionaries: that they will be encouraged that they are an essential part of the team.
  • Ask God if you could be a part of a missionary’s support team.
  • Pray for candidates who are seeking to raise a team of prayer and financial supporters who will stick by them for the long-term.
