Please pray for more typhoons this year

When we first came to Taiwan, we thought of typhoons as something negative. Huge amounts of rain and violent wind. Who would look forward to that?

But now we are starting to realize that regular typhoons are the main source of water for the island of Taiwan. Last year was the first time in 60 years that Taiwan didn’t have a single typhoon.

This year, as a result, Taiwan is facing a drought across most of the country. The water supply in our city is now being turned off 2 days a week in order to conserve water.

But a drought of water is not the worst thing that can happen to Taiwan.

The worst thing that can happen is to have a drought of God’s Spirit.

One of the scariest warning passages in the Old Testament is when God judges Israel by withholding his Word and Spirit:

Amos 8:11-12 [11] “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. [12] They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it.

Isn’t that terrifying?

Taiwan needs water.

But we need Gods Word and Spirit even more.

Jesus said to the Samaritan woman at the well:

Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. (John 4:13).

And to the crowds at Jerusalem he shouted out, If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive. (John 7:37)

Please pray that God would send rain upon Taiwan. We really do need water.

But please also pray that God would send the living water of his Spirit upon Taiwan. Pray for God’s word to be faithfully proclaimed and heard, so that the Spirit can bring eternal life. Pray for more people to do this proclaiming!
