At the heart of OMF’s vision is the church. While there are many ways of bringing the gospel to East Asia’s peoples, we feel the best way to see genuine transformation of society and culture is by starting local churches, or “communities of faith” through the grace of God. Do you have a deep burden for the lost and desire to establish indigenous churches among unreached and least-reached people groups?

Church planting for OMF means we typically engage in the mission practice of going to areas where there is least or no Christian witness. Where possible, we partner with local Christian organizations. Through identifying and meeting needs, we begin building relationships to build up communities of believers until leadership in the church is established.

In some countries, we are able to do church planting work openly, while in others we need access through creative means such as language teaching and community development. Church planting takes place either in urban or rural contexts. At the center of church planting work is a heart that desires to see indigenous communities come to deep faith in the Lord Jesus.

We seek church planters who:

  • Display evidence of mature and growing faith in their daily walk with God
  • Have a passion for the lost
  • Are gifted in areas such as evangelism, discipling, teaching. Preaching and pastoring
  • Are able to build relationships easily
  • Are able to testify to God’s grace through own personal experiences of challenges and obstacles
  • Have a pioneering yet patient spirit
  • Have the flexibility, willingness and humility to adjust and learn in new cultures
  • Are willing to commit to long-term ministry of building and training up church leaders
  • Have experience in church ministry
  • Have formal bible training such as a Certificate in Christian Ministry and Bible Training; a Bachelors or Masters in Bible or Theology; or a Masters or higher in Divinity, or related field.

During the first 1-2 years, your primary ministry will be spent in full-time language, culture and worldview learning. Upon completion of this formal study, you will transition to a ministry location and adjust to your new ministry context. Language and culture learning continues as ministry begins. Some locations may present living challenges, such as a simple rural environment with no running water or immediate services. Others could be an urban setting with high population density, pollution and busy city living.

Whether you have a passion for the poor, the marginalized, the working class, the student population or the middle, upper rungs of society, contact us if it is your vision to see churches established to the ends of the earth. Wherever it may be, we usually have short-term, mid-term (1-3 years) and long-term openings that strengthen our church planting, personal evangelism and discipleship efforts.
