The cycle of poverty is hard to break and the poor often find little hope for any change, much less a brighter future.

At OMF International, we serve the poor and marginalized by sharing the love of Christ through the Gospel. Through being neighbors and friends of the poor, we address the practical needs of the people. Where possible, we partner local non-profit organizations and community projects to address these needs which may include healthcare, nutrition, sanitation, education, sustainable farming, skill equipping, etc. There are needs for both the urban and rural poor, so ministry could take place in either setting.

Partner with the community leaders in Bangkok to improve the conditions in their slums. Reach out to the homeless and juvenile delinquents in the cities of Taiwan. Set up HIV/AIDS or TB health programs in the Philippines. Plant churches amongst the poor in East Asia. No matter what your areas of burden and expertise are, there are avenues aplenty to serve and love the poor.

We seek workers who have:
•    A deep love for God and a heart to love and serve the poor
•    A thorough knowledge of the Bible
•    Ability to share your faith and disciple others
•    A pioneering and compassionate spirit
•    A willingness to learn the local language, understand and appreciate the local culture.
•    Sensitivity to the poor as you live and work amongst them.
•    A flexible, adaptable and teachable attitude
•    Ability to work in a ministry context which may lack resources and present significant spiritual, emotional and cultural challenges
•    Good health and able to live simply
•    Experience and training in counseling or social work is an advantage.
•    Experience working with a specific people group eg alcoholics, drug addicts, homeless, slum dwellers, etc would be beneficial.
•    Some formal Bible training. Certain countries require missionaries to spend one to two years in Christian ministry.

The first 1-2 years of your ministry will spent in full-time language, culture and worldview study. Upon completion of language and culture program, you will then begin transition to ministry location and adjust to your new ministry context. Long-term workers must undergo a psychological evaluation to determine fitness for this ministry before acceptance.
