How did God call you to Japan?

God began calling me to Japan when I was 19, when he reached down and gave me life and forgiveness in Christ. This new joy, love, and acceptance in Christ was something I had never known or thought possible. I came from a hard background and didn’t know what it was like to be loved. Jesus changed that! I wanted everyone to know how good God really was.

I got involved in a campus ministry in the US and began to tell everyone who might listen about the love of God and the great news of Jesus. While some people came to faith, most had already heard and had no desire to hear more.

Sometime later, I heard about a short-term missions trip to Japan through the campus ministry. I pictured Japan as the place of samurai and geisha. I got excited because I thought it would be fun to see a new place. So I decided to go.

While in Japan I began to share with students on the campus about the love and goodness of God. I was shocked when they had little to no knowledge of this Jesus who had changed my life.

My heart was pierced because I knew God’s desire was for all to come to repentance and the knowledge of Jesus. I said to myself, “That’s not fair!” Millions are here who need to know the love and grace of God in Christ and they are not being told.

From that time, God put it on my heart to be willing to return. And again, he provided all I needed to come back for the long term.

Being called to Japan is not easy, but I owe God everything. He deserves of all our lives. He calls us to go into the world so that all might have a chance to hear of his love and forgiveness in Christ.

Will you pray for Japan?

  • Pray for other people willing to go to Japan and tell Japanese of the love and goodness of God.
  • Pray that God would provide all that new missionaries need to go, as well as all that missionaries need to stay in Japan.
