FEAR – the “in thing” since Covid-19 outbreaks

Since the outbreak of the global Covid-19 pandemic , the emotion of FEAR became the “in thing”. Fear of being infected, fear of the lack of needed groceries and food (news of empty racks in supermarkets around the world are common sights). There are many more things and matters that intimidated us in the current situation.

As missionaries, we are not exempted from this despondency, staying home would be ideal, yet we still need to live normal life with necessities and not be paralysed with fear. There are people there who need help badly. My wife and I took every needed precautionary measure for ourselves and others by following Taiwan government guidelines. We don’t want to be the next super spreader, yet we would like to continue our mission by doing as much as we can.

Love is an international language that the blind can see and the deaf can hear. Contemplating on the current situation brought me into His Presence with this Bible passage that says,

“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.   By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.   There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.   We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4:16-19)”

I love this acronym for the word FEAR,

False

Evidence

Appear

Real

Don’t allow FEAR to conquer our heart and soul by scenarios that have not happened and be paralysed to the work we are called to do.

During this Covid-19 pandemic time, we need think carefully about what is needed to be done.  Take every needed preventive measure, and then fear not. God reigns, life and death is in His hands.
