Where OMF Japan works

Black and white map of Japan showing the three regions OMF works. Tokyo, Sendai, and Sapporo are labelled in red.

We work in the northern and eastern parts of Japan, from the Greater Tokyo Area, through Tohoku, up to Hokkaido.

Our vision & mission

Our vision: By God's grace, we want to see a vibrant church impacting every community.

Our mission: To glorify God, we serve with others to make disciples of Jesus Christ

OMF Japan distinctives

We have missionaries from more than 12 nationalities; from their 20s to their 60s. Our missionaries come from a variety of evangelical backgrounds.

Language and culture

We have our own language and culture learning centre. We live side-by-side with Japanese people and plant Japanese churches.

We have been in Japan for more than 70 years.

Member care

We look after, pray for, and support one another. We have missionaries in support roles.

Types of ministry

Church ministry

We believe a long-term way to reach Japan is to start churches. Many of our missionaries work in missionary church
planting teams, or alongside Japanese pastors and evangelists in churches. We're also involved in the revitalisation of struggling churches.

Evangelism and discipleship

Our members are involved on both evangelism and discipleship and we are helping and equipping the Japanese church to do these too.

Student ministry

Some of our workers are in full-time student ministry, most often partnering with KGK, an established Japanese campus ministry.

Support ministry

Some of our missionaries work in support roles. These workers are essential to OMF's effectiveness and the ability of our missionaries to serve long-term. Some of their roles include finance, TCK care, medical, and pastoral care.
