Living in Light of God’s Sovereign Plan

In 1990, Chrison and Angela immigrated with their families to Canada from Hong Kong. They committed themselves to overseas missions as an engaged couple in 2005 and married in 2006. Chrison and Angela have two sons, Josiah and Moses. It has been 17 years since they dedicated their lives to missions and God continues to be faithful to their family every year through thick and thin. Today, Chrison and Angela, together with their sons, serve as long-term missionaries in Japan. Chrison and Angela’s story reminds us that as we remain in Him, God uses all things we experience for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28).

Never Forsaken

Throughout Chrison and Angela’s missions journey their family has faced numerous ups and downs. Yet, at every step of the way, God has faithfully remembered them and remained by their side.

The family has endured quite a few hardships, including Chrison’s mother’s passing from cancer in 2012. Not long after, Chrison suffered various health issues as well, but the Lord healed him and brought him to full recovery in 2017. During this time, God encouraged Chrison and Angela through a change of heart in Chrison’s grandma toward their missions calling. For years, his grandma was against the family moving to Japan to be missionaries. Over time, however, she reconciled with God and submitted to His will for them. She gave Chrison and Angela her blessing to become missionaries in Japan and supported their calling through her prayers. Chrison’s grandma’s change of heart continues to be a great encouragement to the family. In 2017 and 2018 the Lord led Chrison and Angela, along with their children, to go on two short-term mission trips with OMF to Japan. In 2022 God opened the doors for Chrison, Angela, and their two sons to finally move to Japan long-term to serve as missionaries.

Our Labor is not in Vain

Chrison and Angela’s eldest son, Josiah, shares about why Matthew 28:19-20 is a particularly special passage—not just for him and his family, but for all believers:

“Do you remember what Jesus told his disciples before he ascended back to heaven?

According to Matthew chapter 28, Jesus says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

What does this mean? It means that Jesus calls his followers—you and me included—to tell other people about the gospel, the gospel of salvation. This is the calling for all of us. This is our family calling.”

Through the joys and the sorrows, the Lord used every moment to bring Chrison, Angela, Josiah, and Moses to where they are meant to serve today. Nothing was ever wasted, as God used every experience to equip and prepare each family member for His mission. Chrison and Angela’s journey reminds us that we can trust in God’s sovereign plan. He is the One who leads us and takes care of us. We need to just keep following Him!

The Journey Continues

Here is an update from Chrison and Angela on how the Lord has been leading their family currently:

“After 17 years since the Lord called us into missions, we are finally here in Japan as long-term missionaries. We are currently in full-time language training at the OMF Japanese Language and Culture Center in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Josiah and Moses are studying at the Hokkaido International School. We continue to seek the Lord’s guidance. May we all remain steadfast in Him in advancing His kingdom work! Thank you so much for your prayers!”
