We asked about Ruth Mae about her hobbies. She wrote:

If you ask me on a day after I’ve been on my feet all day cooking for an outreach event, and then talked lots with people during the event, I would tell you my hobby is going to Japanese hot springs. So many are in beautiful locations and the feeling of sinking into lusciously warm mineral water is amazing for both body and soul.

On another day, I would say that I like to read, sew, swim, do crafts, or making wedding cakes.

If you ask me after a long season of ministry, I might tell you it’s going to a different area to walk beaches, collect shells, and explore historic places and natural phenomenon.

After returning from a time of beach combing and reflection, I have shared the shells with the kids who come to English class. But I’ve also shared with them my reflections about what the shells had shown me about God.

One time I did this, Kakeru,* an elementary-aged boy in one of my English classes, responded enthusiastically and started riding his bike to do Bible study with me on his own time. His message on his New Year’s card this year made me happier than the beach treasures! It read, “Please teach me about God again!”

I’m so glad God gave us so many things to enjoy and we can pick what we need at the time!
