Driven by his love, we have the privilege of being a part of God’s mission in proclaiming his gospel and making disciples through prayer, giving, sending, serving, and going and mobilizing.

The day I received the prayer guide

It is worth our while to wait and then pray. Our Father opens the way.

Early in 2020, OMF New Horizons in Brazil was planning a trip to Japan and another East Asian country for non-bilingual Latinos – usually traveling to Asia would require an intermediate knowledge of English in order to start conversations – it was an answer to prayer.

Months went by and unexpectedly, our Sovereign Lord decided to summon the attention of the world through this pandemic. Quite naturally, uncertainty set in, but He is not a silent God. He speaks through His word and I felt him say: “Keep praying during this time, wait and keep doing My will during this time.”

Despite the difficult and painful circumstances – due to the quick spread of the COVID-19 —we witnessed how God was interested in saving everyone and what an extraordinary privilege it was to be able to participate in it (1 Timothy 2:1-6) through prayer for all humankind!

This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:4-5

And so, months went by and August came around. I heard the news that OMF’s East Asia Prayer Guides had arrived in Lima. Our Lord not only wanted me to pray generally for the whole world, He wanted me to pray specifically for each Asian country through this prayer guide –and to not pray alone, but to include many others, too.

So, He prepared our hearts and I held in my hands the Prayer Guide on August 24. I am blessed and thankful to know the reality of each country in East Asia, their people, culture, worldview, religious diversity, customs, context and prayer requests.

This guide tells of the great needs faced by the followers of Jesus in the different people groups and the need they have for the gospel and to live for the glory of God.

Social networks are useful for sharing the contents of the Prayer Guide, so that more friends can join in and pray for the countries in East Asia. My WhatsApp groups and friends have been my allies, as well as my family.

Reading the prayer guide every day to pray for the information it contains, and for the prayer requests is like traveling in my imagination into the future and seeing Revelation 7:9 in my heart. I so delight in seeing the great multitude, all peoples, of all races, tongues and nations knowing that through our prayers for East Asia we are contributing to the fulfillment of this revelation… what an amazing privilege!

“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.”
Revelation 7:9

A family praying for East Asia

I would like to invite you who are reading this article to join me in prayer. This guide is a great resource. Let us be aware that the task is still unfinished among the nations, for the Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean, Burmese, Filipino, Thais, Vietnamese, Chinese and other Asian peoples are searching for the truth and have not yet found it. They were created by God and are waiting for the Gospel.

There is a pressing need for prayer. Let us not be idle. Our Lord Jesus is on the move! They are waiting to hear the Gospel and to be discipled. We need you! Do you have time to pray? Join us and be a Latino that prays for East Asia and be a part of the fulfillment of God’s mission.
