During Advent we asked you to pray with us for Christmas events as they happened in churches in East Asia. We’re delighted to share a few photos and, more importantly, how God has worked to answer your prayers! We hope these stories inspire you to keep praying.

Christmas in Thailand

Double the people!

Thank you for your prayers for the Christmas outreach efforts of Ban Phet Church in Central Thailand back in December. The Lord worked powerfully in response to your prayers.

Mrs Oh, a member of Ban Phet Church, got permission from her village headman to organise a Christmas celebration at Nong Khaem Village. The event was held on Thursday, 19 December at the village community hall. Praise God that almost 100 people came – double that of Christmas 2018! We sense that people in this village have a growing interest in hearing about Jesus. A short-term mission team from Singapore performed a nativity skit, powerfully sharing the good news of Christmas. At the end of the celebration the children and youth were given Christmas presents.

Please pray for Mrs Oh, the only Christian in this village, as she continues to reach out to her neighbors with the gospel.

Changed Lives

On the evening of 15th December, Ban Phet Church members sang Christmas carols at various homes in the neighborhood. Singing about the hope of Christmas encouraged members and gave them an opportunity to invite people to the Christmas service the following Sunday.

Ban Phet Church’s evangelistic Christmas service on 22nd December went well with the many people from the surrounding villages attending. An ex-convict shared his testimony of how his life turned around after he came to know Christ while in prison. The evangelist, Mr Prapon, delivered a powerful sermon about the love of God expressed through the gift of his Son.

One lady was touched by the gospel message. We visited her on 26th December and that evening she opened her heart to receive Jesus as her Savior.

Praise God for new life at Christmas! Please pray for her as she starts out following Jesus and for the church as they disciple her.

Christmas in Japan

‘Thank you for praying for the Christmas outreach event at Connect Church Yokohama, near Tokyo!

The evening went very well. We were praying for 60 people to come (the most people the room we’d hired could take) and almost exactly 60 people came!
About a third of them weren’t Christians and had a chance to hear about the true meaning of Christmas. Santa Claus and Christmas illuminations are very popular here, especially in big cities. However, Christmas in Japan is not so much about family gatherings but rather a time to go out for a date with your girl- or boyfriend. So Christmas in Japan is all about “love and romance”! And we got to share about the greatest love of all, Father’s love in sending Jesus to earth!

The evening started with games and crafts for the kids followed by a time of “food and fellowship”. It was great to chat with people in a relaxed atmosphere and also be able to talk about the meaning of Christmas on a personal level.

As in 2018, the choir, made up of 11 non-Christian Japanese ladies, joined us again. Everybody loved the songs and the creative Christmas play performed by some of the church members. The talk afterwards, encouraged people to enter the real joy of Christmas by discovering God’s love for themselves. Thank you for praying for the event and for continuing to pray for the Japanese and for the Japanese Christians to be able to reach their nation with Jesus’ love.’
