Growing Student Ministry in Cambodia

Sok* participated in student leadership training for the first time, at the national conference of SONOKO, the Christian student movement in Cambodia, part of IFES (International Fellowship of Evangelical Students). Through the Bible studies and seminars, he could deeply learn about God and understand himself more.

Sharing tears and joys together with other students, he could experience the real meaning of the body of Christ. Sok became a Christian last year when he came to Phnom Penh to study at the university. After he heard the gospel and decided to believe in Jesus, he had several spiritual attacks, but with Christian friends’ help, he could overcome them and stand firm in faith.

Now he has Bible study group with his friends at campus and continues to grow as a disciple of Christ. As a new Christian, he faces many trials and obstacles to live out the gospel, however the community of faith supports and encourages him to grow more in knowing God and following him.

Many students like Sok heard the gospel and became Christians when they came to study at the universities.

SONOKO continues to reach out to those students, share the gospel and make disciples. We train them to grow as student leaders who can disciple others.

We are deeply thankful that they commit themselves to witness to the gospel on campus and serve others to know Christ. It is exciting to expect and see the next generation of Christian leaders who will impact the church and society of Cambodia. This is the vision and mission of SONOKO student ministry.

After over 20 years of pioneering stages, SONOKO now takes a step forward to grow as locally led movement. It is affiliated with IFES from this year, which is so encouraging for all who have sown the seeds together in tears, and now praying for the first Khmer leadership of our movement.

Continue to pray for the students in Cambodia to grow as the disciples of Christ and boldly live out the gospel for God’s glory.
