Veronica volunteers with OMF Australia, helping compile and send out prayer materials to OMF prayer supporters. Here she explains a bit more about her role and how she got involved:
Why did you decide to get involved and volunteer with OMF?
I decided to get involved and volunteer with OMF because Jesus has given us the great commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and I see OMF living this out by sending gospel workers who are committed to glorifying God through sharing the good news of the gospel in of East Asia. I wanted to join in this wonderful mission so decided to apply as a volunteer.
What did your role involve and what impact did it have?
I volunteered as a Prayer Administrator and Co-ordinator. This involved compiling prayer newsletters from field workers and support staff workers in OMF Australia and sending the newsletters out to subscribers. Prayer is vital in the mission field; God hears our prayers and is at work in them. With God’s help, producing these prayer newsletters meant that supporters are able to know what to pray for and partner alongside the field workers who are proclaiming the gospel in East Asia.
How much time commitment did it take?
Depending on what needs to be done, the time commitment will vary between week to week. Though, I spent an average of 10 hours per week volunteering with OMF.
How would you encourage others who want to get involved by volunteering?
My first encouragement for you is to be proactive. Take the initiative to chat with your local OMF center about the different ways you can volunteer. And for those who are sitting on the fence, I would say just go for it. If you are worried about time commitment being a barrier, my encouragement to you is to remember who you are partnering with. As you volunteer, you are not just partnering with OMF but also with our great God who has defeated sin and death. What a privilege it is to be invited into his great mission, to redeem all tribes and people and languages to himself.
