No Spirit Ceremony

A Mien believer is very sick and nearing the end of his life.

His younger brother asks him if he can perform a big, two or three day, spirit ceremony for him after he dies. His brother, however, is so sick that he cannot talk. He takes a piece of paper and writes: “No spirit ceremonies.”

Despite his reply, his younger brother goes then to his brother’s wife and asks her whether she wants him to perform a spirit ceremony after her husband dies. She, also a believer, tells him very clearly that she also does not want that to happen.

Despite their wishes, the sick man’s parents secretly go to a spirit doctor to find out about their sick son. However, the spirit priest sees, in a vision, that the sick person has crossed the water and gone to the other side. On the other side is the cross. He then tells the family that their son and brother is a real Christian, so they cannot do anything for him that involves spirit worship.

  • Lord, may Mien believers stand strong in their faith, especially at the end of their lives.
  • I ask for more spirit priests to see visions that will lead them to worship You, the One True God.
  • Lord, may Mien Christians live a life that brings Your light into their extended families.
