I was one of twelve church members who went on a Serve Asia mission trip to the Philippines with our Pastor. I was prepared for God to lead me in spiritual development. It was an amazing, awesome and astonishing experience and there were a number of highlights which stood out where you could sense God’s presence at work.
The most memorable for me was prayer walking the villages of St Rita and Pinamitinan with German missionary Tobi and two other members of our team, Grace and Daphne. On arrival in the village of St Rita we were greeted by a man on the bridge, who he was I don’t know but sometime later as we turned into a village lane there he was in front of us directing us to the house of his sister, a believer! This proved to be a blessing for her as well as us. She took us to the local church that was struggling with no mission support and showed us around, then on the way out we were swamped by a hundred plus children in the village square! I gave out prayer bracelets and Bible tracts (the latter a powerful and effective evangelism tool) until they ran out so I asked Daphne whether she had any left. She did, and before she could give them to me one of the church women with us then invited all the children to church on Sunday where they could receive the tracts and learn about Jesus Christ! There was excitement, joy and wellbeing as Tobi led a spontaneous prayer meeting in the open square and I felt inspired praying for the church and the children. God was at work and I continue to pray for the village and a spiritual revival since returning home.
I learnt from my Philippines mission trip that God is always there for us. I am more conscious of the need to be humble and serve others, and I saw how a team can achieve more than an individual.
