Heavy monsoon rain hit the Biblical Seminary of the Philippines (BSOP). The water rose inside the campus equalling the highest level of flood water previously seen inside the school. The faculty was concerned as the floodwater continued to rise because the seminary library is on the ground floor. The seminary’s indispensable treasure trove of books, archives, journals, and other resources was at risk.
As the water level rose, we did two things. We placed sandbags at the lowest spots, the doorways into the library. And we prayed. Praise the Lord, that day was only a close call as no water entered the library. That battle for the library was won!
The war for the library, though, is never finished. We write books and articles. We defend against termites. We work diligently to prevent fire. We fight humidity and mould. We scrimp and save to buy more books, journals, and databases, in paper and/or digital formats.
Ultimately the war goes beyond libraries…
Our desire is to send out well-trained and fully equipped workers, for the harvest in the Philippines and Asia.
BSOP is a seminary for ethnically Chinese students. It is just one representation of the seminaries that OMF partners with by supplying lecturers. An additional way OMF trains and equips the church in the Philippines is through writing and editing books and articles.
Will you pray for the Philippines?
- Pray for seminaries to be well resourced to equip God’s workers with God’s word across Asia.
- Pray for those graduating from seminaries such as BSOP and returning to home countries where the Gospel is not valued.
- Pray for books for an Asian context, written, edited and published by experienced theologians, especially those writing from an Asian background.
