Missions have been part of our journey since Pam’s first mission trip in 2011.
Since then, we’ve served through local outreach, multicultural short-term trips, and as tentmakers in a regional town in Western Australia. There, God brought a group of East Asians into our lives—some Christians, others still seeking. We met weekly for Bible study, prayer and to share life together—bringing church to where they were.
In 2022, Pam was in a car accident, bringing us to Perth for her recovery. This season reminded us that our lives are in God’s hands—and that He had sustained Pam for a greater purpose.
While holidaying in Taiwan in 2024, we walked among its warm and welcoming people—many of whom have never heard the gospel. Though 5% identify as Christians, fewer than 1% of Taiwan’s 15 million working-class people are disciples of Jesus. Our hearts broke.
As someone trained in engineering—drawn to logic, planning and security—full-time mission was never in John’s plan. But God placed a deep burden on his heart for the Taiwanese people, intensified by a vivid dream in which he wrestled with an angel of God and poured out his fears about finances, family and the future—and ultimately surrendered, waking with a deep sense of peace.
After much prayer, we both felt God’s call to step out in faith to serve in Taiwan. Our desire is to love others as God has loved us, bringing hope, healing and the message of salvation to those who’ve never heard it. As 1 John 4:19 says, “we love because He first loved us.”
Pray for Chees and Taiwan:
- Pray for open doors for effective ministry in Taiwan, and hearts ready to receive God’s Word with joy.
- Pray for boldness to proclaim the gospel without fear. May His Word bear much fruit and transform lives for His glory.
- Pray for the Lord to supply all needs according to His will; for strength in spirit, provision in every way, physical and mental protection.
- Pray for guidance and discernment. May we serve with unity and love, that others may know we are Your disciples.
