Before I knew Christ, I had aspired towards a corporate career where I could use my proficiency in Japanese and Chinese. So when God suddenly put the idea of mission on my heart, my first response was, “Oh no, not me. Send someone else!”
I wrestled with God, and told Him I would just do two months in Aomori, but this trip awakened a passion for mission instead. Soon after, God led me out of my consulting job and into Bible college.
Now, God has opened the door for me to serve among Japanese people in Sydney. My ministry focus is people from Japan who live, study or work in Sydney for a short time, who later return to Japan, including international students and working holiday makers.
When Japanese people live abroad, they are often open to new ways of doing life and experiences, including church. We hope that these Japanese “returnees” may encounter and be transformed by Christ—then bring the gospel back to their communities in Japan.
Pray for Alvina and Japanese returnees
- For Japanese returnees globally to be welcomed by Christians, have opportunities to hear the gospel, and declare Jesus as Lord.
- For Japanese returnees to grow in their faith and desire to share the gospel, whilst abroad and upon their return to Japan.
- For Alvina’s words and actions to reflect the love of Christ as she engages with Japanese returnees.
