Church planting in rural Cambodia; training and development and TCK care for OMF Cambodia

Arrivals: Simon and Angeline Porter

Simon and Angeline have been leading a church-planting team in Kep, Cambodia – re-establishing a small Khmer fellowship and developing ministry skills in church members. Simon has also been overseeing training and development for OMF Cambodia whilst Angeline is responsible for care of children and families on the team.

Joys of rural ministry
“We’ve really enjoyed being involved in rural church ministry once again over the last two years,” Angeline says. “It’s been a blessing to see Kep Fellowship Church through a period of slow and steady growth, in numbers and in strength.”

“Savun is one man we’ve been delighted to see grow,” Simon adds. Savun is a metalworker who had almost no knowledge of Jesus two years ago. He came to faith early in 2022 and chose to be baptized a year later. Savun has clung to God through challenging times, including struggling for income and food, drug addiction in the family, and seeing a relative sent to prison. He’s found God to be faithful throughout these challenges and speaks clearly of the freedom he now enjoys in Christ.

Srey has also been a great encouragement to the Porters. Srey is married to Roat and has attended church for many years, but only recently made her own commitment to Jesus and was baptised. Srey and Roat made a clear break with their past, burning their altars and other idols.

New discipleship and training ministries
In July 2024, Simon and Angeline plan to move to Phnom Penh in time for the start of the Hope International School academic year, since their sons’ current school does not go beyond Year 8. They will continue with their current roles on the OMF Cambodia team, and are seeking the Lord to discern in what capacity they might best serve the wider Cambodian church in discipleship and training.

Pray for the Porters and Cambodian Christians

  • Pray for Simon and Angeline, and their sons Reuben and Gabriel, on home assignment in Australia for six months before relocating to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
  • Pray for Savun and for his wife Sophat, who is struggling with the mockery that becoming a Christian can bring from family and neighbours.
  • Pray for Srey and Roat, as Srey wrestles with health issues. Give thanks for the way Srey testifies with joy of how Jesus has freed her from her life-long fear of ghosts.
