Facilitating Japanese in the planting of churches
In these cases, the missionary takes on the role of a “facilitator” or “coach” to a Japanese Christian who wishes to or has set up a group with the intention of developing it into a church. He or she helps the Japanese Christian evaluate the progress of the group and challenges faced. The missionary encourages the Japanese Christian to make his or her own decision by asking questions, listening to them and sometimes giving suggestions or advice. The missionary might or might not be a member of the group but meets regularly, usually one to one, with the Japanese church planter. OMF missionaries have facilitated Japanese Christians in starting groups with the aim of becoming house churches.
